The 4th highpoint of the trip was Rhode Island. We departed the Mount Frissell trailhead and headed N to catch I-90 to take east across MA. But we were alerted to some significant traffic delays owing to construction, so we opted for the scenic route through CT.
We parked along the side of hwy101, not realizing there is a parking area just off of hwy101, adjacent to the hiking path. The very soft and loamy earth was welcome to our feet after being battered by the boulders of NY's and CT's highpoint trails. We found the USGS benchmark along the W side of the path midway to the highpoint boulder. Incidentally, there is a second USGS benchmark on the E side of the path, too.
About 200 yds down the path we arrived at the highpoint buulder. We took the requisite pictures and Kyle signed the register. We skittered back to the car and headed N into MA to visit Treehouse Brewery. My 38th highpoint was in the books!
