Up until this date, MD's high point had proven to be the most "demanding" of all highpoint treks: 2 mile round trip hike with 700' elevation gain! This trip, however, was done in the dark just after a snowstorm - there wasn't much to see.
September 4, 2015: Since I commute regularly between MD and OH for work I decided to detour back to OH via the MD highpoint. I wanted to revisit this highpoint which I didn't get to truly appreciate during my initial visit. I did the hike solo in almost exactly an hour - 20 mins up, 20 mins at the top, 20 mins down. The hike never relents and is a steady 12% grade. The woods are stunning, though, and since the trail is steep, you hike away from the highway road noise rather quickly.
There are a few changes I noticed over the span of 12 years. The cairn adjacent to the Hoye Crest sign is significantly larger. There is still a mailbox that supplies completion certificates and contains a summit log, but now it has its own dedicated post (rather than mounted on the Hoye Crest sign post). There is also a park bench up there facing East-ish so you can rest and look through the small clearing out over the vista.
