Joshua Tree National Park - May 12, 2001

This represents the general appearance of Joshua Tree Natl. Park -- random
rock blops scattered throughout; but notice the immense
size (there's a tent at the base illustrating relative size)!

A little desert wildlife

Hey, there's Wile E. Coyote ... is the Roadrunner nearby?!

The area where we bouldered is Hidden Valley -- where is it!?

There are many rock blops at Hidden Valley. Some require gear; others can
be bouldered and scrambled. This is "The Blob." Notice how small the
person is near the top.

Chimney Rock

Intersection Rock; again, look at how small the repellers are compared to the rock!

This is the south face of "Old Woman." Look closely and you'll see a man in
green about 2/3 of the way up.

I've zoomed in on the man in green. From this image, the texture of the rock
appears to be fairly smooth ... but on the contrary, after
just about an hour of bouldering and scrambling, our hands were raw.

This pile was our first adventure. Be sure to notice the lone boulder at
the summit and note the relative size of the tents at the base.

Along the way to the top we encountered a new turtle species ... the Luiz Turtle!

Be careful where you walk, there are many crevasses.
Luiz, demonstrates his agility and, again, the relative size.

We have summited! (Carey, and I are sitting on that lone boulder I
mentioned a few pictures back)
