Blackberries, iPhones, and the like ...
Lately phones like Blackberries or iPhones have come to really bother me. While I really do appreciate their technology and all of the conveniences they have to offer, I've become a bit irked by the way some of their users choose to implement some of the tools, namely email. Because these phone users have the ability to check email on the go anytime they desire, they are often tempted to answer emails right then and there, "on the go." Because the devices are not readily equipped with a full-fledged qwerty keyboard, their responses often leave a bit to be desired. Short. Contrite. Terse. Abbreviated. For some correspondences this type of response is deemed appropriate. But most other times, when you're trying to engage in conversation with the phone user, short and abbreviated responses add no value. In fact, when I receive those messages, plainly advertised with "sent from my iphone" across the bottom, I feel like nothing more than a bothersome ant.
So if you are an iPhone or blackberry user I advise you to evaluate your usage of email on your phone. Consider the nature of the conversation of each email. If only a short and contrite response is warrented, proceed as normal. However, if a conversation requires a bit more attention, please do the favor of waiting until you can use an actual computer w/ full-fledged keyboard. I promise you, you will be received in a much more respectful light by the email recipient.
