Zoom Lens Tote
In preparation for our upcoming (belated) honeymoon, I needed a cozy (and safe) way to tote my zoom lens. I didn't want to travel w/ my big camera bag. So I used the hand spun yarn that my sister made for me to make this zoom lens tote.

I measured the circumference of the lens at its widest. This is about 12". I added another inch for seam allowance.

I used US 7 (4.5mm) size needles.

I casted on enough stitches to yield a 13" piece and knitted in stockinette stitch for 9.5".

On a knit row a created some holes: knit 1, * yarn over, knit two together; repeat from * to final stitch, knit 1.

Then I did stockinette stitch for about 2 more rows and then binded off.

Because I'm looking for a little bit extra protection for the lens, I lined the piece w/ a piece of fleece. I cut the fleece to the shape/size of the knit work and pinned and machine sewed it in, leaving some space on all edges for the final knit sewing to make the bag.

Fold the piece in half, fleece side out, so the holes are lined up at the top. Hand sew the sides and bottoms together. Then turn the tote right side out.

The draw cord is a simple 2 stitch I-cord. Using double pointed needles, cast on 2 stitches. Slide the stitches to the other end of the needle. The yarn is now at the end of the row instead of the beginning. Keep the yarn at the back and knit the next row. Pull the yarn tight on the first stitch. Repeat this until the desired length is reached. Occasionally pull tight on the cord to neaten the stitches.
