Hannah's Hat

Lacy Rib Hat with Picot Edge
I found this super cute pattern at Yarnophiliac. It is amazingly cute so I decided to make it for my niece for xmas.
Grandpa measured her head at 20". I used Bernat cottontots yarn. The color is called "grape berry." I used size US 10 (6.00 mm) circular needles (16" in length).
Cast on 72 stitches (increase/decrease in any multiple of 9).
Rounds 1-3: k
Round 4: *k2tog, yo repeat from * to end
Rounds 5-8: k
Lacy Rib Pattern:
Round 1: *k2,p,k2,p,skp,p repeat from * to end (skp = slip, knit, passover)
Round 2: *k5,p,k2,p repeat from * to end
Round 3: *k2,p,k2,p,k2tog,yo2,p repeat from * to end (yo2 = yarnover twice)
Round 4: *k5,p,k2,p repeat from * to end
Repeat these four rows to end 8 times, yielding 36 rows.
Begin crown decreasing:
Round 1: *skp,p,k2tog,p,skp,p repeat from * to end
Round 2: *k3,p,k2,p repeat from * to end
Round 3: *skp,k,k2tog,yo repeat from * to end
Round 4: *k2,p repeat from * to end
Round 5: *k2tog,p,skp,p repeat from * to end
Round 6: *k,p,k2tog,p repeat from * to end
Round 7: *k,p repeat from * to end
Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread darning needle w/ the yarn and thread yarn through all stitches. Pull opening tight to close, but not so tight as to cause the hat to buckle. Weave in loose ends.
To create the picot edge/rim:
Cut a long piece of yarn. Thread a darning needle. Fold the rim over at the holes, so the edge is in the inside of the hat. With the needle, stitch the edge to the hat using backstitch.
I added a pom-pom to the top of this hat to tidy up the top and to add a little pizazz.
